St. Eugene Youth Ministry Program is based on the eight components of youth ministry defined in Renewing the Vision: Advocacy, Catechesis, Community Life, Evangelization, Justice & Service, Leadership Development and Pastoral Care. St. Eugene faith community strives to provide comprehensive youth ministry.
Catechetical Programs
St. Eugene Youth Ministry Catechetical Program adopted The Catholic Faith Handbook for Youth (CFH) as the primary text/ reference book in conjunction with the Bible for the entire high school program with a different emphasis each year to help young people grow in faith. The CFH is grounded in the four pillars of the Catholic faith outlined in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Grade 9: Catechetical sessions on the Creed
Grade 10: Catechetical sessions on Christian Morality
Grades 11 & 12: Immediate preparation for Confirmation with reference to Catechetical sessions on Liturgy and the Sacraments
Prayer is woven throughout the high school years. All manuals have solid content based on the Cathechism of the Catholic Church, use innovative methods, are very flexible and exhibit an understanding of youth. To learn more about these materials in St. Mary’s Press Total Faith™ Initiative, go to www.smp.org.
Youth ministry sessions are generally once a month on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A retreat experience is also integral to each year. 9th graders have a day of reflection focusing on friendship with Jesus; 10th graders experience an overnight retreat based on Catholic Social Teachings; and confirmation candidates have a weekend retreat exploring the meaning of discipleship.
