Coping with Grief

Sunday, March 4, 2012

2:30pm - 2:00pm

St. Eugene Narthex

There will be an hour and a half session designed for sharing and reflecting upon the life changes felt by those who have experienced the death of a loved one.  The session will be rooted in prayer, scripture, poetry and the wisdom of those who work through their pain, accept their loss, adjust to a new reality and develop a deeper spiritual relationship with the deceased and God. There will be discussion of common grief reactions and practical insights as to how to approach the holidays when bereaved. The session will be held at 12:30 – 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 4 in the St. Eugene Narthex.  There will be light snacks served so we ask that you register at the Parish office in advance.

Objectives:

Individuals who participate in this session will have an opportunity to:

1)  Share their personal experience of loss/grief.

2)  Identify a variety of grief reactions experienced by their body and mind and spirit.

3)  Discuss four tasks that must be accomplished to integrate the grief experience in a healthy

     manner.

4)  Relay their spiritual distress or insight regarding their own loss experience.

5)  Acknowledge others who have experienced the death of a loved one.
